Motivational Monday: Season of Giving

nativity“Giving frees us from the familiar territory of our own needs by opening our mind to the unexplained worlds occupied by the needs of others.”  –Barbara Bush

“Because it is at Christmastime that want is most keenly felt, and abundance rejoices.” –First collector from Scrooge.

“Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go.” –Mother Theresa

Giving of ourselves is such an important part of this time of the year, and it seems more than ever people are struggling and in need. I pray that all of us will be touched by the plight of others and give of ourselves with money if we can; but, more importantly of our time and of ourselves.

If you want trying to decide which organizations to donate to, here are some suggestions (religious and non-religious) of some really great charities:

Kiva

Little Sisters of the Poor

Toys for tots

The Salvation Army

If those don’t appeal to you, why not consider doing something local such as visiting shut-ins or a nursing home, or donating goods or time to your local food bank or shelter?

Happy giving!
