Words can’t express how annoyed and frustrated I am at the moment. I have a Dell laptop with Windows Vista that a friend gave me about a year ago. It is no secret that Vista has glitches and problems -my computer included. Well, yesterday everything came to a head when I ACCIDENTALLY installed the Vista Service Pack I.
After the service pack was installed, not only was I unable to get online but I couldn’t do ANYTHING. Nothing, nada. I used my desktop computer (from which I am typing right now) and was able to do an online chat with a Dell technician. After more than two hours later, the problem was still not resolved. I was told that a PC restore would be required, so I would have to back-up my files (whole other story!) and a technician would call me in the morning to begin the process.
Well, I called them this morning. After half an hour, we were finally able to begin initializing the restore. I was told that I would have to let the computer “do its thing” for about 45 minutes and set up a phone appointment for 1pm to finish the restore.
When 1:15pm came and went, I called them using the extention number I was given. Voicemail. I waited some more. Called -voicemail. By 2:15 I was steaming. I called the general number and after 20 minutes finally got someone on the line to help me.
it is now 3:50pm and it is still NOT done. There has been one thing after another. I can’t tell you how many times I have been put on hold. As of this moment, the technician is using GoToAssist to have control of my computer so he can install the drivers needed for the computer.
Once they are installed, I will still have to re-install Microsoft Office and who knows what else. It will be 10:00pm before this thing gets done. And, I am doing this while trying to keep my three-year-old occupied and quiet!
There, I feel better already.
There are lessons to be learned by this experience, I’m sure, and I should be blogging about them soon. Thanks for letting me rant.
Have a great weekend!
***It seems that after I posted this, the tech guy was able to finish the restore and re-install the software. THANK GOODNESS!
