Dictionary tip

j0399580.jpgI am in the process of taking an online course, and learned an interesting little tidbit last night:

The dictionary can be divided into four equal parts. They are A-D, E-L, M-R and S-Z. If you put a bookmark sticking out on the first page of each section (first page of the As, first page of the Es, etc) and on the last page of the Zs (to separate the other non-dictionary pages), you will see the four equal parts.

I tested this on my Merriam-Webster dictionary and, of course, it proved true.

My tip: Write the first letter of each section on the bookmarks where they are sticking out. The next time you need to look up a word, you will save time by easily getting to the section nearest to where the word is located.
