I have a little quirk. I’m a tiny, tiny bit obsessed with checking my blog stats.
I check the blog stats almost every day, even if it has been several days since I last posted.
April 25th marked my first blogging anniversary and I’m very grateful for my readers. My readership has grown slowly but fairly steadily and watching my blog stats go up and down like a yo-yo has been an interesting experience.
What I find particularly interesting is the rate of increase of spam. I’ve noticed that each time I had growth spurt of readers I got a double spurt of spam! This month alone so far I’ve had 1,374 spam comments. Geez.
Fortunately, when my Wordpress blog was being setup, the first plugin installed was Akismet. It is a spam blocker that automatically routes spam to the spam folder. It has been fabulously effective and in my first year of blogging I’ve only caught three real comments that Akismet missed. Pretty good track record if you ask me.
(I don’t know what MS Outlook uses to catch spam, but I wish it used Akismet! I can’t tell you how much spam Outlook misses!)
