“What can a Virtual Assistant do for me?” is one of the most asked questions I get from people. My favorite way to respond to the question is to issue a challenge. I encourage inquirers to take some time to make a list of all the things they do in a given day. Then, over the phone, I go over the list with them. I almost always get the same reaction: they are impressed and surprised of how much can be taken off their shoulders. After all, just because a micro business owner works alone, doesn’t mean they have to do it all. There is someone ready and able to help them take their business to the next level.
The reason I issue that challenge instead of offer a laundry list of services is because there is really no limit to what a Virtual Assistant can do for a client. Just about anything an in-house assistant can do, a Virtual Assistant can do – and more.
Having said that, here’s a sampling of how a Virtual Assistant can be utilized:
Internet Services:
Research of all kinds; coordinate website design, hosting and updates; monitor website for errors or broken links; survey campaigns; social networking account management (Facebook, Linked-in, etc); article submissions; monitor website traffic, banner ad placements and click thrus.
Writing Services:
Newsletter and blog content; copy editing; proofreader; ghost writing; business writing; letters and documents; manuals; business plans; media kits and PR copy; business plans; ebooks.
Time Management:
Appointments and scheduling; screen and respond to email and voicemail; screen and respond to snail mail; contacts and calendar management; plan meetings and events.
Event Coordination:
Travel arrangements (airlines, rental cars; hotels); research facilities and make reservations; coordinate catering; arrange parties; prepare presentation materials.
Personal Services:
Gift purchasing for business or personal; reminder services for business or personal; Send thank you and/or other cards; plan vacation, party or family reunion.
Support Services:
Be a “Gatekeeper” for the client so that everyone who wants to get to the client has to go through the VA; be a fabulous resource; be a sounding board; help brainstorm new ideas; be your right hand person; keep all facets of your business running smoothly and efficiently.
Other Services:
Desktop publishing; power point and other presentations; transcription; marketing; manage vendor relations.
In Conclusion:
See my point? This list only covers a fraction of what a Virtual Assistant can do. As the VA learns about his or her client and climbs deeper into the business, the VA can virtually run the client’s life -freeing the client to focus on those things he or she is passionate about.
Stay tuned for the next installment where I’ll talk about the next most asked question: rates.
