Love this word!
I have a new favorite word: “rumdum” The priest used it during his homily this weekend at church, referring to the Apostles who often misunderstood Jesus’ teaching.
Do you know what rumdum means? This is what it is according to www.dictionary.com:
rum-dum
/ˈrʌmˌdʌm/ Pronunciation Key - [ruhm-duhm]
-noun
| 1. | a stupid or ignorant person. |
| 2. | drunkard; lush. |
-adjective
| 3. | stupid; ignorant. |
| 4. | of, pertaining to, characteristic of, or arising from habitual drunkenness; addled by drink. |
Also, rum-dumb, rum-dumm.
[Origin: 1890-95; rhyming compound with rum1 and dumb, perh. influenced in sense by humdrum

Isn’t it lovely how the word rumdum rolls off the tongue?
Know any rumdums? I have known a few rumdums in my day - and they were usually my boss! Of course, I’ve been a rumdum too (of the ignorant kind, that is) on occasion; but, we’re not going to talk about that. ![]()

Oh, I know a rumdum or two. I think we all do. Although I must confess to being amused at the preacher’s use of the word.

Thanks for the comment. Apparently, the priest uses that word a lot, according to a friend of mine. It must be his favorite word as well.
